Applied mathematics is a relatively new area of high school math. It was developed in response to changing mathematical requirements. The increased use of technology in society, the way in which information is communicated, and the manner in which young people process information were carefully examined. Alternative solutions are encouraged and students spend more time on practical, applied problem solving than on the traditional conceptual use of formulas, algorithms and theorems.
